"CHARLIES BARKLEY TELLS US WHAT HE THINKS WE WANT TO HEAR"

@ 02:03 PM (4 months, 24 days ago)

BY: DR. FOREST LEWIS

Charles Barkley has an addiction!

Barkley is no different than an alcoholic, or a crack-cocaine addict. He has "A Disease." Barkley's disease is gambling. From newspaper accounts over the years, I have been able to deduce that Barkley had a drinking problem at one time. Why else would an NBA star go into a public bar, get into fights, and toss a customer thru a window? Why would someone with all of his "Alleged Money" risk being sue?

I believe Charles Barkley switched one addiction for another!

Last week, it came out that Barkley failed to pay a Las Vegas gambling casino, "400,000 Dollars." Law enforcement announced that  Barkley would be indicted if he didn't pay up. Barkley issued a statement that said in essence that the unpaid bill, was "All A Mistake." He said that it "had Slipped His Mind." Tell me something. How does a bill in the amount of "400,000 Dollars Slip Anyone's Mind?"

The fact of the matter is, it doesn't!

My thinking is, Barkley's addiction told him that he could get away with not paying the debt. When cornered, he attempted to place the blame to the casino. Typical behavior of an addict. Appearing on TNT last night, Barkley said that he will pay the casino off. Then, he said something strange. Barkley said that he was, "Quitting Gambling."

I say this is strange, because an alcoholic does not "Up And Quick Drinking After Twenty Years." The crack addict doesn't stop smoking crack, "All Of A Sudden!"

NEWS FLASH: CHARLES BARKLEY HAS NOT STOPPED GAMBLING.

He simply told his audience what he thought they wanted to hear. By swearing off gambling, Barkley accomplishes several things, (1) He receives lots of love, (2) He can get the spotlight off of himself, or so he thinks, and (3) He can go back to using people, and "Oh Yes," (4) Charles Barkley can continue to gamble, "Secretly."

An addiction will tell the addict all types of crazy things. Barkley will eventually get caught gambling, once again. Remember where you heard this!

Chances are, Charles Barkley suffers from a Major Depressive Disorder. Look at how fat he is. Gambling has a way of assuaging some of the depression. The food does the rest. If Barkley stops gambling, how will he cope with his psychological problems? He never once mentioned that he would seek out the services of a qualified Clinical Psychologist. According to Barkley, he will just forge straight ahead. My advice, don't believe him. The man is out of control.

Anytime that a person gambles away a fortune, something is wrong, psychologically speaking. By his own admission, Charles Barkley has gambled away over the years, "Ten-Million Dollars." Yet, he says he is solvent. Do you buy that? I don't.

The man is a train wreck, careening out of control. He should "Fire His Agent:"

"My agent has really worked with me to try to get it where I can go and gamble and have fun. That's easier said than done"

The action of Barkley's agent is like someone giving an alcoholic "One Drink, Or A Crack Addict, One Line Of Coke."

If he has any friends, they should consider performing an intervention, before something terrible happens to this man!

I am not a fan of Charles Barkley's. However, because I am a Clinical Psychologist/Substance Abuse Specialist, I detest seeing someone, "Crying Out For Help," and his friends patting him on the back, and saying, "Nice Job Chuck, Your Admitting That You Won't Gamble Anymore."

But, maybe his friends are as clueless as Charles Barkley is!

  1. Hey Doc, he sounds an awful lot like my addicted to prescription drugs buddy...."I'm right and the rest of the world is wrong" mentality, and everything....riff

  2. You are right Riff. This is just typical behavior from an addict. They don't mean to hurt people, however, this is their way of coping. They are sick people!

  3. NAW ...You dont give a "CRACK ADDICT" a line of coke ... Ya give a "50 ROCK" ....Then watch as they "WANT MORE" !!!!!!!! Watch as "ALL" hell breaks ....

  4. Tell me Aza, what does a good country boy know about crack-cocaine? I'm surpsied at you. Naw, just kidding. You are being kind. My way, a line of coke is pure torture. Both modalities will allow the coke to sear the brain in an optimal way. My point is, you are hurting the person. Charles Barkley needs treatment, that is, if he wants it. Agreeing with him to gamble to just have fun, is the wrong thing to do! Barkley is a very arrogant man. Personally, I couldn't care less about the dude. Eventually, he will crash, ego and all!

I've been "CLEAN" 17 years now I only "DRINK", RIDE TRACTOR, CHASE COWS, AND HIRE IMMIGRANTS WHICH WILL BE HERE IN THE NEXT 1-2 WEEKS FOR PICKING SEASON !!!! I have 10 acres dedicated to growin Blackberries and they are almost ready. Then its back to work "PREPPING THE CANE" for next year. All the while the next plot of peppers are always in need of a good 'PICKIN" !!!!!!!!! I would be rich if I were allowed to grow a cash crop like "POT" or "COCA" !!!!!!!!!!! BUT THEN THIS COUNTRY WOULD HAVE FULL HOUSE OF PROBLEMS THEN SO ......I wont !!!!

  8. God bless you on staying clean and sober. Did you do inpatient or was it outpatient/individual work? I know that that crap is everywhere. Hell, even in my small town in Virginia. We are right at the North Carolina border. Heck, I can walk over to N.C. They tell us there is a war on drugs going on. I haven't seen it. Have you? Chasing cows, huh? Just as long as you aren't doing some funky stuff with "Bossy." LOL.....Do you have problems with deer and little varmins eating your crop(s)?

Comment by Dr. Forest— 2008/05/21 @ 10:17 AM — (Reply)

  9. I've been "CLEAN" but I blew it on "SOBER" just last night. I found my shoes outside and all the empties from me and "UNKIE" Jerry and all family . I have to clean up the mess before I get out to the field this morning and the room is still "SPINNING" ....The deer havent been a problem but the birds have been. Varmits are good. I cant stop them from getting to my crops but i have some bad ass black cats that knock down those birds. I was out yesterday and found about 20 dead birds in about the same place. My Black female is a real hunter. I have some of her "KILLS" on video and havent put it together yet. Its "VIVID" ...I'll work on it later if you will say that you will look at tit ....

  10. Yeah, I love it when the crazies from the anti-hunting left say, stop all hunting. My reply, "Does That Include My Pets As Well?" I was sitting outside the other day, and my cat brought me this sparrow, that he had in his mouth. The damn thing was kicking and crying. These idiots who want to create "A Perfect World," don't get it, "There Ain't No Such Thing." Damn fools! They don't realize that they have hunters right in their homes. Sorry, that you fell off the wagon. Do you go to AA meetings? Do you have a sponsor? Just keep fighting the good fight, buddy.

Comment by Dr. Forest— 2008/05/22 @ 04:14 AM — (Reply)

  11. Your right about the hunter in your home !One of the segments of the "CATKILL" is a baby bluejay just learning to fly. She got it and "ALL" hell broke loose. Even birds of another kind joined in with all the bluejays they were even lining up to attack us. I went to AA for a short while...I really only met "NEW AND BETTER CONNECTIONS" there !!!!!!! Thats when I realised that my life will have to be entirely up to "ME" ....If I dont like the way it is going ...."CHANGE IT" !!!!!!!!!! I better get my drinking back under control. As "HANK" once said "HANGOVERS DONT FEEL LIKE THEY DID BACK IN"...1973 ....I guess its all about getting old...'er ...

Comment by aza spade— 2008/05/22 @ 08:11 AM — (Reply)

  12. I've had patients tell me that about NA as well. The other thing that I heard is that these guys/gals will talk about what you said during the meeting on the outside. Yeah, my cat is a real hunter. So, when the anti-hunting nuts say something about my hunting, I point to their cats, and the canine teeth in their mouths! That shuts them up every time! Damn loosers.
