"THE STATE OF TEXAS HAS OPENED UP A HORNET'S NEST"

@ 02:32 PM (3 months, 11 days ago)

BY: DR. FOREST LEWIS

I wish that someone would tell me, "What In God's Dear Name Were The Idiots In Texas Thinking About When They Raided That Mormon Polygamist Compound?"

Allegedly, a sixteen year old girl called police and reported that an underage girl had been forced into a marriage to an older man. As of this writing, the young girl has not been found. But, this alleged call was all police needed in order to go charging into the compound, and "Rescue 416 Kids, And 533 Women." If you are one of those applauding this tactic by the police acting in concert with Texas Child Protective Services, I believe that once you have read this column, you will have a change of heart. Or, at least, you will be more flexible in your thinking!

For the record, I am in no way condoning polygamy! And it is for damn sure, I am not supporting a child marrying someone old enough to be her grandfather. With that said, why wasn't this cult broken up long before the damage was done? As I see it, the damage is twofold:

*Children/ women marrying a man who believes he can have more than one wife

*Bringing young children into this world

Once this cult was given ample time to raise up on its hindlegs, it was the responsibility of Texas officials to weigh the after effects of "An Intervention." This is what it was, "An Intervention."

In order to give you an understanding of where I am going with my thoughts, let's start with an operational definition of the word, "Culture." Many misguided Americans believe that there is a universality, or commonality to our culture. In other words, "We Are All The Same." Nothing could be further from the truth. This is how Mr. Webster defines the word culture:

"The behaviors and beliefs characteristic of a particular social, ethnic, or age group"

Okay, given the above definition of the word culture showing that we are not a monolith, I would like for you to consider the following. Whether you agree or disagree with this facet of mormonism, this group of people developed a set of mores that were familiar to them, and to them only. I for one will not say that I am so enlightened that I understand fully, what this sect was all about. One of the biggest mistakes that George W. Bush made in Iraq was not understanding the culture of this ancient city, once known as Babylon!

He sent our troops into Baghdad, with the hopes of instilling "Democracy" on the various groups. Mr. Bush did not consider the culture of the Iraqis. There was this assumption that the "Iraqis Would Be Dancing In The Streets, And Greet Us As Liberators." Nothing could have been further from the truth. While it may be true that some Iraqis saw us as liberators, many others saw us as, "Uninvited Guests." They also saw us as a group of people who did not respect their culture!

Now, keep in mind that we have more than "400 Children, And Over 500 Women" who have in essence been ripped from their environment. An environment that many of these people have known since birth!

Watching Marleigh Meisner, a spokeswoman for the Texas Child Protective Services discuss with reporters how the "Children Were Starting To Settle Into Their New Lifestyle," made me asks, "Who Does This Arrogant Woman Think She Is?"

Meisner doesn't have a clue as to the damage CPS has now done to these people, especially the children. Again, I point to Iraq. It was a a damn mess with Saddam Hussein in charge. But, Iraq was nothing like it is today. We have the socialist democrats calling for a precipitous withdrawal from Iraq. If that foolish advice is followed, Iraq and the surrounding countries will explode!

By the way, have you noticed that no one, not even our "Outstanding" list of presidential candidates are talking about Iran and its building of "Nukes?" It is not a question of if, but when that little tyrant, Ahmadinejad gets his hands on nuclear weapons, can you can the word, "Apocalypse?"

Meantime, what does Iraq have to do with the women and children who have been removed from the Mormon compound? Well for one thing, issues of a psychological nature!

I want you to consider for a moment the psychological problems these children will have. They have in effect been ripped from their homes, and now forcefully placed into "A Carnal Society." This society is foreign to these people. What the department of CPS in Texas has done is akin to placing a child in the middle of a jungle. The chances that the child will survive are slim and none!

These people's culture taught them a core set of values. We might not like what they were taught, but we don't live in a pristine society, now do we? Now, their minds are being filled with a host of ideas and concepts that heretofore, they didn't have to deal with. For example:

* Drugs

*Homosexuality

*Synthetic Men Who Are Pregnant

* Violence

* Gangsta Rap Music

* The Hoax Of Global Warming

* Narcissism

* Disrespect

* War

* Hollywood, Sick Movies And Wacky Celebrities

* Lying Politicians

* Racism

I could go on, but I think you get my drift. Sure, one could argue that these people were being victimized by predatory old men and were also subjected to being beated. I would counter that with, up to this point, we have only heard one from one side, CPS and law enforcement. That is frightening!

 Consider the power that CPS wields. If these people can use law enforment to force their way into this Mormon compound, your little house doesn't stand a chance. What I'm saying is simple. CPS acting under the guise of an unnamed tipster, that said you violated your young daughter, could come into your home in the dead of night, and "Rip Your Children Away From You." And there isn't "A Damn Thing That You Could Do About It."

Don't say that it can't happen, because I have seen this very thing done to a single mother. Watching the legions of police at that Texas compound, all that I could think about was, "We Have The Potential Of Being In A Police State." I know that they will say, "We Are Doing It For The Good Of These People." I would ask, "On Whose Authority?" A sixteen year old girl, who seems to have disappeared after she allegedly made a phone call to police detailing sexual abuse?

An important point that has been lost: Many of these people are related to one another. Imagine the sense of abandonment the children are experiencing. Consider the anxiety and depression the mothers are feeling. Yet, we have this arrogant woman, Marleigh Meisner, standing before the world acting as though she is "God Almighty."

There are way too many complicated issues involving these people to consider. First and foremost, I thought of psychotherapy. Where are the trained clinicians who are adept at dealing with children and adults who have been in a cult? I doubt if Ms. Meisner and her team of jack-booted thugs thought of this. Frankly, I wonder if she really cares. Or, is this all about, "Power And Control?"

This was the Branch Davidians all over again, but minus the gigantic ball of fire and plumes of smoke. And, countless dead children, women and men!

This was all about "Big Brother" showing us how powerful he truly is.

The sadness of this entire episode is, the socialists press is simply regurgitating the talking points that Meisner is giving to them.

I have not heard anyone say, "What About The Children?"

A final thought: Marleigh Meisner talks about the children being placed in foster care, as though this is a panacea. Foster care in a lot of cases can be worse than the cultist compound that these kids were in.  I can not begin to tell you of the number of cases where adults who were once in foster care talked to me in therapy, about sexual molestation and being beaten.

So, when you see the Marleigh Meisner's of the world tout foster care, please take it with a grain of salt!

  1. Come on Dr. There is no way you can make a cogent argument that based on what is known, leaving the children where they were was a better idea.

    Comment by Ed— 2008/04/09 @ 03:50 PM — (Reply)

  2. Are you saying the children who are now in foster care are in a better environment? What happens when they leave foster care? Sex, drugs and rock "n" roll. All that I'm saying is the state of Texas should have acted sooner rather than later. The state of Texas now has a mess on its hands. You don't see this? Further, aren't you concerned about this entire aspect of "Big Brother?" I know there is a lot to digest, but that is why I wrote in such a cogent fashion. Finally, you are taking your cues like the socialists media from law enforcement and CPS. What we need is an independent review. But that won't happen. These kids and women aren't going to "Candy Land" Ed. They are being forced to ingest the mores of a decadent society, "All At Once." My heart breaks for them, because I know what awaits them. You won't hear about it, because they will cease to be "Newsworthy" after the socialists press is finished with using them.

  3. Dr. Lewis, The state of Texas, A state a dearly love, Had to wait until a phone call set this whole thing into motion. Remember it was a cal to authorities which resulted in this situation at present.

  4. Jim, I respect your love for your state of Texas. But, this has nothing to do with the "Good People" of your state, but rather the bureaucrats, who in my opinion bungled this entire thing. I understand that they say that a sixteen year old girl called them. That is in the preamble of my column. However, where is this young lady Jim? Yes, I have some real concerns about the mental health of these young children and the women who have been "Rescued" by CPS and the police. I love the state of Virginia. Nothwithstanding, that will not preclude me from not marching in lock step with everything that a public official does! Jim, I will guarantee you that the CPS spokeswoman is a liberal. I would encourage you to look into CPS. This is a very powerful group, that can wreck the lives of a, "single individual."and in each state, they have the weight of the "Full Government Behind Them." One last thing:How would you deal with the mental health of these people? Believe me, because I know, CPS "Will Not Pay For The Services Of A Private Clinician." All of these people will receive assistance from a "Community Mental Health Agency," which is ill-equipped to deal with issues of this nature.

  5. I've heard the horror stories of cps and how they are often negligent in thier positioning of children taken into custody. This story is on all the news programs of the morning. In an interview this mornings M&J show asked the question if the girl who made the call had been located ? The answer from the interviewee was negative.

    Comment by jim— 2008/04/10 @ 08:29 AM — (Reply)

  6. Well Jim, I wonder if the girl exist? CPS has a lousy record of how it deals with children. These are "Special Kids," and I fear for them mentally and physically. Again, I don't hear that concern being echoed in the socialists press. Limbaugh has it right. They are, "The Drive-By Media." They will simply drive to their next victims, and screw up their lives. Check and see how many stories are being done on these kids in one month.

  7. I heard this morning that there was/is a confidential informat in the compound and that was going on as well. Interesting note: there are girls age 16 with 4 babies already. This is growing into a pediphilia case very quickly !

  8. Further more lawyers for the girls say that they are brainwashed into believing the world is a dangerous place and immorality is to blame ! Brainwashed, OK. Perhaps the truth is hard to take but I wouldnt hide up little girls to have sex with at whenever, To be Continued.

  9. Can you say "Pandoras box"?....I see valdidty in both sides of the fence...to raid or not to raid...ect..The stuff I have a problem is the 12-16 year olds being "married " off to 50 year old men.....That is just sickening....But Doc has a point about the culture shock these kids are going to be subjected to...can you imagine going from "Jesus love me this I know" to Marilyn Manson or 50 cent....."eeeeeeeek!!" If they are going to be yanked from their life as they know it they need to be placed in an enviroment with similar core values, but not the sick stuff....such as I don't know maybe the amish....still a brand of isolationism,but not as scary, very devout christian values, the cultural impact would be a little easier to tolerate.....But until we actually know the full facts (if ever) I could be wrong...besides I made a B in intro to psych...lol....Matters of the intricate mind are not my forte....I will leave that to the good doctor....riff

  10. I still say leaving them there was not an option. The Dr. should head down there are volunteer!!

    Comment by Ed— 2008/04/10 @ 02:43 AM — (Reply)

  11. I would love to Ed. However, I am not an expert in dealing with cults. See Ed, this is the problem. In graduate school, Psychologists lack courses in this area. Even if we had said courses, we would then need to have patients to work with. These people aren't like the welfare people that Riff and I see who come in, claiming to be depressed or suffering from Tourette's or Hallucinogen persisting perception disorder! And all the while they just want us to sign off on their recertification papers. No, these people live in a closed society, with a value system that is foreign to our society. Now that the state of Texas has plucked these people out of their surroundings, it is up to these geniuses to place the children and their mothers in a similar enviroment, along with psychotherapy from a qualified clinician. Yeah, that will happen when the president of Iran converts to Judaism.

  12. Cult style problems are waaaaaay over my head...its like a form of brainwashing....riff

    Comment by riffran— 2008/04/10 @ 06:15 AM — (Reply)

  13. Riff, if the truth be told, working with people who have been brainwashed by a cult is over the heads of most clinicians. Oh, you have the Dr. Phil's who are "experts in every aspect of psychopathologies." These are very fragile people who need the best Psychologists that money can buy, but CPS will not spend the money! I recall you mentioning something recently about the Texas CPS. Mind repeating it for our edification?

  15. Thanks Dugg. My mission in blogging is to force people to think; to take a subject and turn it every way possible. And not just take the "spoon fed" crap from the media and say it is "Gospel." I love a good robust debate. It will help us to stay sharp and defeat liberals! This is my other mission;and that is to defeat as many liberals as I possibly can!

  16. Word now is that the Sheriff's Department had an informant inside that Mormon compound for "Four Damn Long Years." You have got to be kidding me. Then, police get an "Alleged Call" from a sixteen year old, "And Not The Informant" telling them about "Dirty Old Men Having Sex With Underage Girls? Come on, don't tell me that the police couldn't have raided that compound a long time ago. There is more to this story than meets the eye. Again, where is the sixteen year old girl at? I say bust these bastards for alleged wrong doings. But, let's not forget that "We Are A Nation Of Laws," and that applies to law enforcement. I hate to say, "I Told You So," but, the state of Texas "Has Opened Up A Hornet's Nest."

    Comment by Dr. Forest Lewis— 2008/04/11 @ 06:56 AM — (Reply)

  17. Wish I could remember doc. I think it was somthing about either CPS not acting on an abuse report, and the child died from a beating, or something about a child with cancer, and the father not wanting to do a certain treatment, and the doctors filed on him and they took his daughter and was going to treat her regardless....Although I dont envy CPS the job,I know they are woefully understaffed and stressed out, BUT they have a reputation for either going waaaaay overboard in minor things or doing nothing in the face of obvious abuse....riff

    Comment by riffran— 2008/04/11 @ 07:19 AM — (Reply)

  18. Their screw ups are legion. If you ask me, they have way too much power. Try not reporting a parent who smacked a child on the butt, and left a bruise. You could lose your license for that. Think about that. Everything that you have worked for could be taken away from you by some person with a "G.E.D." That's crazy, Riff!

    Comment by Dr. Forest Lewis— 2008/04/11 @ 07:47 AM — (Reply)

  19. I hate to say that I told you so, but, "I told you so." What a mess in that Texas Polygamist court case. Hundreds of lawyers involved representing the children and their parents. Charges that CPS took the children's cell phones, because they didn't want their parents "Influencing Them." Like a clinician can't insert thoughts into the minds of young children. These kids are said to be under the care of counselors. If would be interesting to find out the qualifications of these "counselors." What are their degrees in? Are they at the Master's level, or do they all have "Terminal Degrees?" What level of experience do they have in dealing with children who are from a cult? This is indeed a mess. Yet, CPS can not see what a disaster they have created. These kids will be traumatized for years to come. CPS surely could have planned better. Again, I don't condone pedophilia. Scum that prey on young children should be castrated. But, the arrogant officials at CPS should be investigated as well! We hear more of an outcry for the Islamofascists at Gitmo!

    Comment by Dr. Forest Lewis— 2008/04/17 @ 02:24 PM — (Reply)

  20. Ya know,.....I don't know which is sicker in this case, the overzealous CPS, the baby raping so called husbands, or the damn lawyers defending them...its just bad no matter what angle you look at.....riff

    Comment by riffran— 2008/04/17 @ 04:45 PM — (Reply)

  21. It's like I said Riff, "It's A Mess." CPS has to take a "Major Hit."

    Comment by Dr. Forest Lewis— 2008/04/17 @ 04:51 PM — (Reply)

  22. Dr. Lewis, in your opening, you asked "What In God's Dear Name Were The Idiots In Texas Thinking About When They Raided That Mormon Polygamist Compound?"

    Texas CPS Spokeswoman Marleigh Meisner's arrogance is merely indicative of the mindset of the entire CPS organization. These people operate above the law. They answer to no one at all. They do not have to follow due process. They don't need an order from the Court. Being able to operate above the law twists the thinking of these people. They become more narcissistic than Satan: "I will ascend above the tops of the clouds; I will make myself like the Most High." (Isaiah 14:14) Look at it from their point of view; who are we, to question them?

    Comment by Jon— 2008/04/19 @ 09:43 PM — (Reply)

  23. Dr., great article. I can't in any way justify leaving the children there. However, your point "NOW WHAT?" (which you expressed more eloquently is a good one.

    In my mind, the government has the absolute obligation to see that these children get the appropriate mental health care. The legal proceedings are a joke. Certainly no due process there.

    I'm shocked that no qualified mental health professionals have gone down there volunteering to help. Maybe some will and soon.

    Comment by Barry G.— 2008/04/20 @ 03:59 AM — (Reply)

  24. Thanks Barry regarding comments on my article. My heart aches for the children and the parents. By the way, "The Whistle Blower Was Not A Sixteen Year Old Girl Living In The Compound." The whistle blower was a black woman from Colorado. In other words, the state of Texas stormed this compound based on a "Hoax Phone Call." Now, for those of you who defended the state of Texas, tell me if this doesn't give you pause? Regarding mental health workers going to the state of Texas. You need special training in this area. Most of us haven't a clue as to how to treat these people. Of course, you will always have the "Dr. Phils" who think the are adept at treating any psychiatric malady. Not a good idea! People like that cause more harm than good. Texas is riding rough shod over these people. This is not democracy. It is more like jack-booted Communists. If they can do it to these folks, what about your small family? Watch your neighbor, because all that he or she need to do is call your state CPS and file a phoney abuse report. and your life will never be the same. Something needs to be done about this unfettered power given to CPS.

    Comment by Dr. Forest Lewis— 2008/04/20 @ 04:28 AM — (Reply)

  25. No doubt about it Dr. We have our own version of that type of Nazi agency here is our state. I have had the pleasure of being able to hammer their insufferable arrogance in court as a much younger man doing pro bono work.

    There are also similar government agencies who act under the guise of helping the aged. Again they need to be watched carefully.

    Fortunately in individual cases, where those affected, be they children, parents, the aged, their families can afford or obtain legal services, courts keep a close eye on the parasites.

    One of my theories is that to economically survive, these agencies need customers. So they go out and get customers to stay in business.

    That all being said, let me ask you this: Should the kids still be in the compound?
